- The Airports of the Future Pilot Project was awarded the 2011 Queensland Engineering Excellence Award for Research and Development for its work in assisting the improvement of the operation of security screening points at Brisbane Airport. The multi-disciplinary nature of the project was a key factor in the judges’ decision. As a result of its success, the project will now be entered in the 2011 Australian Engineering Excellence Awards to be announced in November. - Professor Prasad Yarlagadda attended the
Airport Cities World Conference & Exhibition (ACE) in Memphis , USA from the 11-13 of April 2011 and was featured in 'The Commercial Appeal Newspaper" (Online).
- Airports of the Future Project Grand Showcase - February 11, 2011 at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane as part of the The Second International Colloquium on Airports and Spatial Development 9 - 11 February 2011:Redefining the role of the Airport: An International Conference on the Airport Metropolis and Airports of the Future.
- Members of the Airports of the Future team have successfully attracted $500,000 of ARC Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment & Facilities funding (project LE110100023) to support the purchase of equipment to create a state of the art command and control facility at QUT beginning in 2011. This funding is supported by $280,000 in cash contributions from QUT, University of Technology Sydney and The University of Melbourne. The facility will be initially configured to support the ongoing research of the Airports of the Future project. See QUT News for more information.
- Eureka! Airports of the Future Chief Investigator Dr Clinton Fookes was recently awarded the Australian Museum Eureka Prize People's Choice Award. The awards ceremony (shown on Catalyst on 26/8/2010) can be viewed online at the ABC Catalyst website. Congratulations to Clinton!
- Airports of the Future Project Grand Showcase - December 07, 2010 at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane.
- Airports of the Future team members were recently interviewed by ABC and featured on Stateline (Queensland only) on Friday, 30th April at 7.30pm. The interview can be viewed online at the ABC Stateline website.
- The Airports of the Future project received the highest funding from the Australian Research Council linkage scheme announced during round 1 of 2009, and was also highlighted as one of 3 exemplar projects from Senator Kim Carr.
- Airports of the Future represented at the Innovative Airports Conference providing thought leadership on airport security and safety. This conference was held in parallel with the Inter-Airport Exhibition, the world's largest exhibition on airport equipment, technology, design and services. - In December 2009 the Airports of the Future team receive a visit from Dr Andreas Meissner, Head of Business Development Civil Security for the Franhofer Institute for Information and Data Processing. Dr Meissner heard a presentation on the Airports of the Future project at the Innovative Airports Conference in Munich in October and wanted to discuss possibilities for collaboration with QUT and the project. The Franhofer institute is engaged in the European Union Framework Programs.
